As a visual artist in a world in which we are bombarded with  fast images Ellen Jansen creates an atmosphere of silence, stillness, space and  a hint of alienating

She adopts a position of silent observator. She  always emphasizes a distance. There is a conscious silence. This happens through  the way of painting and the choice of images.. She chooses the images  intuitively,. They are close to her and yet she keeps an almost icy abandonmentfrom  them.

In every painting, no matter how different, Ellen captures that atmosphere,  even when she tries not to it creeps back in.
